FAQ

Can I Have A Bonfire/ Camp Fire In My Backyard? Can I Use My Barbecue?

Every year Lake Valley Fire, along with all other districts around Lake Tahoe, in both California and Nevada, restrict the types of outdoor fire products that can be used in order to minimize fire danger around the basin. This ban typically goes into effect in early summer and lasts through mid-November, weather depending. The exact dates depend on many factors including the weather and moisture in the area. While we understand it can be frustrating, it only takes one small ember to start a massive blaze. It takes ALL of us to keep Lake Tahoe fire safe.
